Title: (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
Post by: Quagmire on Friday, October 2, 2020, 12:15:40
25 years old today, feel old?
I was only 4 when this came out but will always remember my old man listening to it, and Oasis in general.

Some of the songs on it are now iconic.

Hello
Roll With It
Wonderwall
Don't Look Back In Anger
Hey Now!
The Swamp Song
Some Might Say
Cast No Shadow
She's Electric
Morning Glory
The Swamp Song 2
Champagne Supernova

Absolute genius of an album.

The album was named after reading Lady Chatterley's Lover at 9am in a Swindon library.
FACT.

One of the best albums of all time. Have some great memories of listening to this when it was first released.
Still played very regularly in the man cave at the bottom of the garden, reminiscing with an ale or two.

I was 25 when that came out. I didn't buy it.

I went to Corfu in 1996 and got on well with a couple from
South East London. He kept playing Champagne Supernova, ova and ova again.   :)

I was at school when this came out and I can remember the excitement of all my mates for the release of the album - so they could run down to John Menzies newsagent, or the record shop in town (which I can't remember the name of in the small East Lothian town of Haddington) to collect and listen to before anyone else.

My cynical first response was 'its not as good as the first one!' That thought would eventually change upon more listens. Superb album.

I had toured with oasis and I worked and lived with the band ocean colour scene. We got a cd about a month before it came out. Moseley shoals had been written and recorded for a while but not been released or anything from it heard except for friends etc.
I can remember clear as day say round our flat listening to it about a month before it came out with Steve and Simon of ocs and the three of us were like - fucking bastards. As we genuinely thought Moseley shoals was going to blow everything out of the water. Cracking album and good times to be alive.

Watched OCS support them at Maine Road in 96, cracking set and had not really heard/played their stuff much before that.

Also released in 95 were ‘Different Class’, ‘The Bends’, ‘Leftism’, ‘Grand Prix’, ‘Exit Planet Dust’... and ‘Boombastic’ by Shaggy.

Was an OK album, not a patch on Definitely Maybe.
Cast No Shadow probably my favourite.

I live in Haddington (having grown up in Park North).  My missus remembers the old John Menzies but before my time up here.

I think it changed to Brunel news later on and just around the corner from John Woodmans hair stylist

Not bad.
However not a patch on the Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC and Rush era of real Rock.
Lucky to have seen all those bands in their prime and more.
Don’t forget the legendary Rainbow and Whitesnake drummer, Cozy Powell was a Swindon fan.
Used to have a kick around in the park with us.
Happy days.

Great album, as was Moseley shoals. Definitely 2 of my faves from that decade.

I endorse this.

When it came out, we listened to it all the time in my halls of residence. I rarely listen to any oasis these days.

25 years and I still can’t pick between the two as to which I prefer

Trying to work out if that is early Rush in the Avatar.

I enjoyed that. Got to admit a few at the end I have never heard of.

How the fuck was Billy Joel in the top 10 for 20 years? Some proper shite in there, too.

No accounting for taste - or lack thereof.

I've heard of Drake, but no idea what songs he does.

Who the hell is Luis Fonsi?

Interesting to note artists floating in and out over the last few years on the back of one or two songs.

It is

My favourite band and seen them 4 times.
The most memorable front row at the NEC R30 Tour. Amazing experience.
Gutted Peart no longer with us. What a drummer.

Was a massive Lizzy fan as well and seen them live twice.

that's pretty cool!

Lovely bloke and used to get out of his Ferrari and put his jacket down for a kick about.
Used to have a white Alsatian called Colin :)
As well as that Jackie Charlton RIP had an Auntie in the village and knocked on the door for an autograph. All the big lads pegged it leaving me at the door, curtains twitched and out he came.
He put his arm on my shoulder saying I was the brave one, smiling and just being a lovely bloke.
Signed my paper and then pretended to go back inside, then turned around telling all the lads to come over where he signed for everyone.
Came to our school the next day and had a game with us.

Another memorable one, got on well with Andy King and went out to his pub once for a beer with him and loads of ex players.
Once I phoned him, line went dead then I’m speaking to Ossie Ardiles for a few minutes before he grabbed the phone back.
Got to know him, his Wife and Mum really well, a truly lovely guy when you got to know him.
Was getting pissed in his office after the Hartlepool game that got us in the play offs.
Loads of stories to tell.
Still keep in touch with some ex players, club workers and have a real friend currently.
