Title: Peterborough
Post by: Panda Paws on Thursday, April 9, 2009, 12:31:15
Now it's been confirmed we've got the terrace, this has got the potential to be one of the great away days. Imagine Stoke away, but on a terrace!

Is anyone training it from or through London and fancies meeting up train?

If we need to get something i might be tempted to have the day off and go.Hoping we'll be safe by then though!Last time i went there Barry Fry was in charge of them and a couple of Swindon fans decided to have a fight.Ace.

Re Stoke, assume you mean the 4-0?Great before kick off no doubt, but losing 4-0 did take the sheen off it some what.Oh well, thank fuck for Wycombe  :D

The 4-0 was irrelevant though, it's still one of my favourite away days! If we get the whole terrace, which I presume we will, it holds nearly 4000. The OS is advertising terrace tickets.

Isn't Peterborough where you and Whits went to a JPT (or LDV as it was then) game on a freezing Tuesday night, Mex? I seem to recall a picture of the "Whits on tour" flag being the only thing on the terrace.

Popped into the ticket office today to get my Rovers ticket and had a chat with the old boy about Pboro. He thinks we're only getting part of the terrace, but having been there before I cant see anyway they could split it, especially when it comes to entering the end. Will be a great atmosphere if they do, it will condense all of our fans and we'll be on a great terrace with the home fans.

How can you split an open terrace? A line of stewards who will be told to stand on the spot?  :hmmm:

Title: Re: Peterborough
Post by: Posh Red on Sunday, April 19, 2009, 21:01:05
I still have the feeling that a point on the day is going to be enough for both teams, and then after a thrilling 0-0 draw both sets of fans can go home happy.

If not then I hope we win 5-0 & then I can at least go to work all summer :)

Title: Re: Peterborough

droll take. I don't think he moved outside the centre circle in the 45mins he played. It's difficult to claim he was that awful in comparison to the rest of the clearly hungover team.

Presumably anyway. If he is really dead then it's a coincidental remembrance.

As you all know the game is all ticket and i was far too slow getting one.
I rang your ticket office to sse if i could get a ticket to stand with you chaps. They were having none of it. Need a swindon postcode or proof of attendance or something.

Anyway, i was wondering if any of you fine fellows might want to get me a couple of tickets.
In return i'd pay a bit over the price, find you a nice parking space near the ground, take you to a nice pub that serves real ale and has a no knob-head policy and i will be able to be mocked if we slip up.

Realise i might get some abuse for this, but you never know, someone might take pity on me.
If anyone would like to help me, send me a PM pleeeease.

Theres a lot of ifs and buts at the moment. Swindon do have 800 seats and the 3500 terrace reserved at this time. Hopefully you will turn Brizzle over and the ticket demand will decrease and the Posh will get the terrace tickets back. But i thought i would put my plea in now, rather than rely on fate (we are relying enough on fate already soapy tit wank).

Anyway, if my hopes come true and i get a ticket from this end, i'd still be happy to help out with parking and pub advice.

I work with a Posh fan in Luxembourg and he is driving back for the game , he has 8 tickets and I was talking about this issue with him this morning.

Seemingly Cheltenham and Stockport took the 800 seats option but Swindon refused. If we need to get something at London road we'll definately need the terrace as 800 won't be nearly enough.

Basically the cops decided there might be trouble. This was based on there being minor trouble on the last day of last season. They haven't taken into account that all the chavs now hang around the new matalan superstore on a saturday now.  ::)

No. Doesn't any club celebrate not getting relgated if they are in serious danger of it? Its not the same level of celebration as a promotion obviously but not going down a division is clearly a good thing and we can rightly feel both relieved and happy.

Congrats to Gutted Posh, hope you do well in the Championship next year!!!

I know a Cambridge fan and he's an absolute cunt and he never stops moaning about your continued success, which pleases me, 'cos if I didnt mention it before, he's a cunt.

I'm actually gonna go to Peterborough, not been to many away matches this year but this should be a right laugh.... double celebrations all round....

Thanks for your best wishes Arch!
re: the scumbridge lot, haha, why doesn't that surprise. I spent 5 years living in Cambridge and they all pretty much match your description. Pass on my best wishes.

If you or anyone else need advice for parking and decent pubs give me a shout. PARTY!

I have to admit to finding the jubilant chants of "staying up" a bit embarrassing. If the positions were the other way round and Rovers were singing it I'd be cracking up with laughter about their shitness.

Title: Re: Peterborough
Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, April 26, 2009, 11:08:33
The fact is that we are shit, but have already shown signs of improvement. Staying up was a must though in order to progress and we've done it. Malpas really did make us weaker on the pitch and weaker on the terraces. A bit of perspective suggests we're far better off now and I am happy to celebrate it. Do take the party atmosphere comments to be a bit OTT though.

I'd rather have a proper chant, even if it is just 'staying up, staying up staying up' compared to having no noise at all, or just some rubbish fast clapping, which is what we've had most of the season. It would have been far more embarrassing if the Rovers fans showed us up over the 90 minutes.

Title: Re: Peterborough
Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, April 26, 2009, 11:12:32
Yeah, but it's not an option of that or nothing is it. or that or hand clapping. There are plenty of other good songs. Just that one is shit.

Title: Re: Peterborough
Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, April 26, 2009, 11:27:27
Well other songs were sung too, in fact I heard quite a bit of variety for a change. I also think that particular song was partly a response to the Wovers fans singing 'that's why you're going down' earlier in the game.

Most of our songs are pretty shit if you think about it. It's just good to have some atmosphere and energy behind the team. Let's face it, we need all the atmposphere we can get compared to the silence that's been found throoughout the duration of the season. Even if that's just rubbish clapping then it's a start.

Title: Re: Peterborough

IT was still shit.

I wouldn't have minded if this season had felt like a real effort to stay up, it just seemed more like it was a lucky default because there were teams which happened to be more shit than us, if that makes sense.

Nothing at all like the awesomeness of Peterborough back whenever.

Yes it was not as dramatic as Peterborough by any means but left me just as happy, I went mental when we bagged the winner.

Not a great season by any means but we may be about to see the start of something bigger now, we finally have a manager that the majority are confident in and whos eye for a player looks good.

Mex got it spot on when he posted that yesterday was what football was all about big crowd, local derby, tension and the result we needed.

I am not for dampening celebrations why should we not be happy, we are not going to be in the lowest league in the professional game, we have some decent away days next season and we should be saying goodbye to a lot of the wasters in our squad.  For me that means big celebrations.

Don't agree, we have now got 52 points with one game left and I can't remember the last time that a team with that points tally got relegated.

If we had stayed up with less than 50 then I would agree it was because the rest were shit.

As for celebrating yesterday's result.

If we had got relegated & promoted next season would we have celebrated promotion, of course we would.

Well we start next season in the same position as if that had happened, and that in itself is reason to be happy.

So in those immortal words   "Don't Worry,  Be happy"  :D

Its all very well people criticising the songs that are sung but thats our fan base, like it or not and if people have such an issue with what is sung, then perhaps they should get off their butts and try and do something about it.

I personally will join in with pretty much anything if it means theres some type of atmosphere and I couldn't care less who likes it or not!

Since when was football fandom so over-evaluated!

Should we just sit/stand there and mutter disappointingly week in/week out?

People travel up and down the country paying to watch football and many would much rather travel to Charlton than to Accrington, is that a crime?

Heaven forbid many are happy that we've avoided relegation.

Bring back the good old days when virtually every player had a song of their own, and we used to sing them all before kick-off.

"He's here, he's there, he's every fucking where, Alan Mayes,  Alan Mayes"
"Andy, Andy, Rowland.    Andy, Andy Rowland".
"Chris Kamara, Chris Kamara, la la la la la la".

I blame all you young 'uns, who aren't educated enough to come up with classic songs like that :D

Anyway, Fuck it, I'm going off to get all nostalgic now.

Any ideas how many tickets we've sold for next week, and what (if any) the likelihood is that we now let Peterborough have the Away Terrace?

Back in the day I used have an ok record at starting songs, not that I was often very adventurous.

I don't often share my compositions with the public, but here is one I wrote a while back, it is to the chorus of 'Whole Again'.

It goes something like this:

Roll it out to Jamie Vincent
Up the line to Macca
Who will beat the full back
Cross it in the box
Into Simon Cox
He's gonna score a goal again

And remember, poetry is just another way to rap.

Interesting read on BBC about Posh's chairman and how he's financed them moving up the leagues

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/p/peterborough_united/8015421.stm

Liked the bit about Aaron Mclean - not too dissimilar to what we are going to face with Coxy quite soon.

'Wolverhampton Wanderers succeeded in encouraging Mclean to hand in a transfer request. But Macanthony made his intentions clear by slapping a £5m price tag on the former Grays man.

"Aaron Mclean will score a lot of goals next season and taking a couple of million pounds from a Championship club would be the worst bit of business I have ever done," said Macanthony. "Thirty-goals-per-season strikers do not grow on trees.

"I will not be bullied by other clubs and the games they play through agents or the media into selling my best players when it does not suit the football club."

Whereas many clubs would have folded and let the player have his way, Macanthony put his foot down and Mclean stayed'

3 month loan deals are for a maximum of 90 days with GG and HRKs running out, seen as we signed OTJ weeks later he'll be fine.

I dont know about both - you dont want to try too many at once and then have them getting torn apart because in the long run it will do their confidence in.

Here is a very rough map of where to park and where to drink.
The roads in the yellow areas are good places to park. No more than a 10 minute walk and good for a clean get away after the match.
The pubs labeled are knob-head free:
Cherry tree is nearly all away fans.
Charters is a boat on the river and is having a beer festival and bbq apparently.
Coalheavers is having a beer festival as well.
Swiss cottage is a nice little pub. Haven't been in for years but i thinks its still ok.

Says in the Evening Telegraph tonight that the Moyes End is also available for Home fans on Saturday.  Fuck knows how that's going to work if that's true.

Mind you, it also says that our likely line-up is going to include Greer, Kanyuka & Robson-Kanu

Anyone know how many tickets we've sold?

800 was the last count. Maybe a few more since then but I doubt it'll be much more

Looks like we have sold 1200. The OS states that there were 800 tickets left from a 2000 allocation.

Aren't you a Posh fan St Ives? I seem to recognise your name from the Posh Forum. Didn't one of your guys say he had a spare ticket for the top of the new stand?
