Title: Lucas
Post by: tans on Friday, July 8, 2011, 13:14:34
Has the latest installment of the bottling cunt contingent actually fucked off yet?

I know he was on trial at Rochdale, but we havent heard anymore have we?

I expect him to leave by 'mutual consent' if the Rochdale move doesn't work out.

Thats harsh.

Lucas was a decent keeper on his day and a true professional.

I hope he finds a club, seems a decent bloke.

I agree with Tans.  I wonder how much of a problem the homesickness would have been if we'd got promotion and been been playing Championship football or even still in League 1 - bearable I would imagine?

Homesickness wasn't a problem under Danny Wilson.

Suddenly kicked in when the Paolo Di Canio reign of hard work and commitment kicked in.

Too much hard work for him.

If you've got a wife and kid in the north and hurts so much to be away from them then why sign for Swindon in the first place?

This subject really annoys me and just proves most footballers are out so out of touch. Like Tevez signing a 5 year contract at City now saying he wan'ts to leave because he misses his family so much....do fucking sign then you mong faced <unt.

It's not like football is a really long career and Lucas will be away from them for another 5 years even! just playing the 'I miss my family card'.
So for that reason he can do one as far as I'm concerned.

Or were all of the 'injuries' last year mental ones or home sickness related? We'll never know.

As has already been said, homesickness is a weak excuse. There was no mention of homesickness when the team were doing well, was there?

It doesn't matter anyway, if he didn't want to be here it's for the best that he fucked off. Will we miss him?

Will we fuck.

With respect, homesickness could also include the Mrs giving him an ultimatum. It doesn't really matter now either way, as long as we have one senior keeper then that's fine.

this sort of bitching pisses me off, who knows what is going on behind closed doors in players' personal lives?

as soon as a player says anything even close to what lucas has said they're out of touch?  fuck that, wish people would stop trying to find hidden agendas in everything every footballer has ever said, they're not farmed in some factory like products they're fucking people first and footballers second.

people lose such a vast amount of perspective over footballers it's untrue.

ok, so he had a shit season last term, does that necessarilly make him a cunt?

not basing this rant on this specific case just the whole notion of players not actually living a life of their own.

you either want a mercenary who is never gonna give a shit but who is happy to have a job or a player who has to occasionally consider their own lives from time to time

It's not about whether a player is a 'nice' guy, or not. It's about stepping up when the going gets tough.

Too many players (Lucas included) failed to do that last season. All the players who wanted to desert have now done so and good riddance.

Time to focus on next season's squad and forget last season's failures and bottle jobs.

Genuinely enjoyed having David Lucas at the club. A keeper with balls, who (when fit and in form) controlled the box as well as anyone we've had for years. God we've had some average keepers... Smith epitomises average, Evans flattered to deceive, Griemink was a waif, Mildenhall was superb at times, but rarely authoratative, Talia volatile but had a great run of form....  brez, was 2 different keepers pre and post arm break.

Lucas in his 1st year with us was better than any of them. Controlled the back four, nothing fancy, just solid.

If we go through bring town fans, hating every player for the way they left, it'll drive us mad. Same goes for Charlie and Paynter. Happy memories. In Lucas' shoes, its a good time to move on. I'll remember a talented keeper, who used his experience and confidence wisely, as one of our best for years.

I have a lot of time for DL but it was time to part company. He clearly had a few niggles and also the family issues. On his day he's clearly one of the better keepers outside the top flight so a shame we didn't see much of that last year. Fond memories and a fonder fair well. Nice one Dave.

Barry Corr got sent off for elbowing someone about 20 minutes in (then went off to a decent ovation which was fucking stupid)

Then instead of staying 4-4-1 - Budgie took off Zaaboub for Paynter and went 4-3-2.

One of the best town displays for a long time, even at 1-0 down, 1 man down  with about 5 minutes to go against top of the league we never gave up - and wasnt the penalty for handball?

Thats the type of committed display I expect Di Canio wants every week.

fair point, we out 'roared' the swansea fans when they scored!

I wanted to go to that game, but my Dad's spare car, a clapped out Mini Metro that he let me use during university holidays, was on its last legs so he banned me driving it up to Birmingham.  Instead, my brothers and I went to Elm Park to see Reading vs Mansfield.  A nothing game - don't even remember the score or who won.  All I do remember is some of the locals with transistor radios looking shocked and talking about our game on the way out.
