What's your best/favourite goal by a town player?
Mine is Bensons 'goal' against Wigan in the FA Cup 3rd round

Best I've seen live would be Billy Paynter at the 3-0 Leeds game at Elland Road, think it was the third goal and it was a scorcher: pretty much got him a contract with them which was a shame.

Favourite would be trickier...does Stephen Darby slotting home his penalty against Charlton in the playoffs count?

Won by Chalkie and Scored by Bodin (I think) away at West Ham. They fucking battered us but Nicky Hammond played a blinder.

A penalty is never a 'great' goal, but that one will remain with me forever.

Either of Turbo's goals at the Pox are up there.  For a left field answer, Chris Hay in the seventh min of injury time at Bradford...when were totally shit under McMahon, and the game was only played as we'd both lost in the cup (it may even have been Stevenage that we lost to).  So unexpected, so much fun.

I remember that - but not for the game.

After it had finished up I popped in for fish n chips down Manc Rd on the way back to the station.

There was a Sunderland fan in there who had been chased by a load of town fans.

Being a good egg I suggested he came with me back to the station and the cunt pulled a knife on me.

Understandably left him to it and I'm sure he got caught in the underpass down by what was then Bon Marche.

Invincibile v Peterborough.  A wonderful moment that gave us hope - a hope that came true, thanks to Rovers' ineptitude.  Its also a wonderful goal for the technique - ball dropping over left shoulder, volley in to top corner.  The situation makes it even better.

Agree that Charlie Henry goal was special for the pure release of tension. My own favourite was a Paul Rideout stunner from near the touch line not far from halfway against Bristol City in the League Cup c.1982. Such technique.

Danny Ward at Charlton when we had 10 men and Aden Flint (spit) at Brentford in the last minute are the two I've gone probably mental about in recent years.

It depends whether your criteria is technical excellence or just the emotion and going fucking mental.

Charlie Henry for me and his celebration running the length of the North Stand, fits the most mental celebration by one of our own and the whole CG with him. Danny Ward poking past the keeper at Charlton or Miles Storey vs Villa come close.

Duncan's at the Hawthorns for a wonder shot had both technical excellence and celebration for those there. As does in recent times, Charlie Austin for his Pele style rounding the keeper or Rory Fallon's overhead kick.

Hoddle on the opening day versus Sunderland, Quinny volley vs Fulham in 86/87, the Original Alan Mac versus Southampton or Fjortoft vs Blackburn in the Premier are all technically brilliant. No-one has mentioned the Don rounding Bob Wilson with 4 touches on a boggy Wembley pitch?

If I had to pick one, just for the memories would be Charlie Henry vs the Pikeys (wasn't even the best goal in the game which was Carl Elsey's volley)

Yeah some good shouts. Still think mine is Charlie Henry, or Chalkies 2 in the next game after. But macca's at Northampton is very very close, that was just mental. Technique wise def Cox although I didn't realise how good at the time, but it was a nothing game really. Also like to chuck in Revell at Brentford. Flint at Brentford and Austin at Carlisle for mental celebrations in recent times as well.

So many to choose from.

As others have said, it depends how you're judging it.

For favourite, again so many, but i think as many of the others have already been listed, i'll go for Steve White's goal in the play off home semi against Blackburn which put us 4-1 up on aggregate, i knew then i'd be seeing Swindon playing at Wembley for the first time, something i never thought would happen just a few years earlier

It was a goal but for some reason it was disallowed. Someone offside I think. Paul Rideout smashed a volley in front of the townend on his début. Seen plenty more but if it had stood it would have been up there with Kenny Strouds Belter...

Jan Aage's curler versus Millwall in the League Cup game is right up there - because from the angle I was sat at there looked no way he could get in in from there. And there is the hilarity in Mick McCarthy sulking about it afterwards. Mercifully he's not been seen in Burton's since. It's about 5:18 in.

I've seen some great strikers and great goals in the 40 years I've been going to matches but this is the best goal I have actually seen from a Swindon player. 

We've been spoiled for memorable/ dramatic goals, of the sort that send you into such a delirium you can't work out what to do with yourself to adequately celebrate, in recent years. Of those that haven't been mentioned yet, Collins hat-trick goal, bundled home in the last minute of extra time to win 4-3 at Stoke, was pretty special.

Best goal is tricky but Colin Calderwood's effort from his own half in the early nineties against Port Vale takes some beating. Years before Beckham stole all the glory...

I remember it very well against Mark grew who wasn't a bad keeper who played in the top flight for WBA & Leicester.

I remember that one well, but never realised until I just watched it again that it was Jason Drysdale who gave the ball away with a dreadful cross that led to us scoring. Possibly the best thing he ever did for us ?

Mine isn't the best goal, in fact it was a pretty shite goal. Alan Mac's vs Sunderland at Wembley just for the significance of it at the time was massive.
We thought we were in the big time from the moment. Of course there was some shit to come after that.

The Shearer half volley vs West brom is a decent shout, as is Maskells. Bodins pen was more important though.

I still think Mitchells goal v Watford is a thing of beauty and is still my favourite. As well as those already here I'd give a mention to a couple Quinn cracked in at York in a midweek game - two goals of the season in the same game.

I too was at the IOW Festival - how come I didn't see you Reg? Hitchhiked down most of the way on a dust cart. Hendrix wasn't very good, and it was about 4 o'clock in the morning when he finally came on. The vid repeats the error which I only found out about recently - it wasn't his last gig, he did a festival in Germany shortly after the IOW.

Best - alway's liked Ross Mac's at Brum. Came a few days after Hillsborough, the twats still had locks on the fencing. Gave me a hard time when I pointed out that prob wasn't the best thing given the events over the weekend.

Ref Paul Rideout's non-goal. From memory that was on his debut when he was still 16, maybe 17. Absolute thunderbolt, not given 'cos of offside. He did score later, though, a nod-in.

It was on his debut as a 16 year old, he scored from all of 30 yards out, hit the top corner of the bar and post and bounced down over the line, absolute cracker that came only a few weeks or so after he did the same for England vs Scotland....the England goal is here half way through.

Austin at Saints, Collins at Stoke, McCormack at Northampton, Ward at Charlton and Flint at Brentford are the ones that stand out for me.

AUSTINS goal at Saints was magnificent in itself and it pissed all over Pardews hopes of pulling off the impossible.

Austins goal at saints was made all the better for me coz I was sat behind his dad.

Bit of an odd one, mine. 2000, Martin Williams' bicycle kick v Luton Town (A) has always stuck in my mind. My overall favourite though is Glenn Hoddle at Wembley. As a kid growing up in 80s London, I always had a soft spot for Spurs and Hoddle was my childhood hero. Seeing him notch at the Twin towers in a Town shirt... Well, I pretty much soiled myself... The stuff of dreams.

Hoddle "passed" that goal into the net at the end of a build up of countless passes that had started at the other end with Digby - a real classic, if subsequently overshadowed by the coronary inducing drama of the 2nd half

Boom. They were literally destroying everyone at St Marys then as well, think they beat Huddersfield 5-0 the week before! Then we did them... with 10 men. Great night.

6 of their starting XI played in the Premier League at the weekend.

Not one of the best but one of my favourites. Just a memorable match and fog aplenty.
