Title: Pre-Match

How on earth did the scum end up at the turnstyles of the DRS with 250 police on duty?

It kicked off in that area the last time we hosted them in the league and this time was even worse. They put the barrier up in the car park where there was no escort passing  :hmmm:

Any TEF'rs present?

No idea why it happened. Looked to me like they were being escorted that way, but it doesn't make sense so maybe not.

Stood outside DRS and watched the flares going in opposite directions and nipped through a turnstyle when it looked to be headed towards us :)

They normally escort from the train station along station road then the back roads to county road then up by CGH to away end of Arkells.
Today it seemed they came down Fleming way, across the magic and down Shrivenham road.
Of course that route takes em  past the DRS where their were apparently big gaps in cordon allowing them to make a break towards the town fans. Rendering the steel fence a complete waste of time.

I saw on twitter someone spoke to transport police at station after game, BTP were told to expect 250 in number but turned out to be over 1000 so maybe that's why route change. Piss poor whatever the reason

Trying to get into the DRS today wasn't pleasant.  Police in their wisdom gave Oxford the Savoy at the top of town as their designated pub, hence them being walked via Princes St/Fleming Way & past the back of the DRS. There were some of our fans utterly terrified around me by being caught up in it.
Would've made far more sense for them to be given one of the pubs opposite the station & then brought in via Station Rd/County Rd.

Ah yes forgot the savoy,  but train mob came that way too and no reason for that other than keep it to one group. Shitty were kept to station pubs so wonder why that changed

Makes a lot more sense to use the pubs near the station, wierd that it changed for the Pox.

Utterly bizarre, Rovers with a similar sized following were kept in the pubs opposite the station earlier this season (abandoned match), it's almost like they wanted it to kick off today.

I'm not usually that easily rattled, but for some of them to actually get as far as the turnstiles was rather unnerving!

It amazes me that there were more officers in attendance for a game (250) with 10,500 fans that at the average Cat C game at Old trafford (150) with 75,000 fans yet they can't it appears organize a piss in in a pub.

I walked through them as they were approaching the DRS and Swindon Fans.
It was just 'arms outstretched' and goading.Oxford Mail tried to sensationalise it somewhat.
Shouldn't have happened mind.
Probably helped that I wasn't wearing a red scarf.

With so many away fans gathered at the top end of the town, the police faced a challenging task to shepherd such a large group safely towards the County Ground.

Despite officers’ attempts to keep the hundreds of fans enclosed within a moving cordon, it appeared they were dramatically under-resourced.

Oxford supporters broke free of the police lines and ran into oncoming traffic on Princes Street as officers with batons drawn joined others on horseback struggling to keep control.

After a pause to allow more police reinforcements to arrive, the escort continued to the Magic Roundabout without incident.

But as the Oxford supporters crossed the open ground, the Swindon fans amassed in the County Ground car park were waiting.

The two groups ran towards each other, red and yellow flares soared through the air and officers could once again be seen fighting back in an effort to maintain any sense of order.

Despite their best efforts, the officers were outnumbered and on the back foot throughout.

With the crowd spread out, and with large gaps left between each officer lining the edge of the road behind the Don Rogers stand, the Oxford contingent were able to break through the lines with ease and surge towards the waiting Swindon fans.

Saw a photo of a bloke on the floor in the recovery position. rumours were he was an oxford fan who was hit, not by a fan but something thrown. More rumours saying he was in a critical condition but probably bollocks as i heard other people saying he was moving.

We walked head on into the Oxford fans outside the DRS as we walked down Shrivenham Road. We had scarves, shirts etc on but they were more interested in trying to fight the people behind the police.

Stupid by the police.

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say, I was walking to and into the DRS as they were going past.

Never felt to me that it was going progress any further than gesturing.

Bit of a non story IMO

The police told the Great Western Hotel they could open for an hour before the game.. Don't think the staff were really enamoured with that idea
