Everyone secretly loves that forgotten slice of toast that has gone all cold and limp. You'll shovel it down faster than you can say "sliced bread, singed by heat", especially if no one is looking? Don't we? Shirley? Bassey?
Crack on.

I don’t like butter, so couldn’t think of much worse.

Many a slice of toast has been dropped on the floor in a drunken or post drunken state over the years. Can't remember any of them ever landing butter side up.
They were all probably picked up, dusted down and put back on the plate anyway.

Out the toaster. In the fridge. Smother in butter. Add Marmite.

Toast has to be buttered within a millisecond of being removed from the toaster. Simple as that.

No, cold toast is only worth it when you’ve left it in the toaster after it’s done and the butter will sit on top. That’s with doing.
Soggy toast, is a no.

Indeed. I can understand leaving a slice to go cold but genuinely popping it into the fridge...
