Title: Pat Kanuka
Post by: Power to people on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, 07:44:29
Not seen it mentioned anywhere but apparently Kanuka did not sign his new contract by the deadline and did not turn up for pre-season training yesterday.

I assume he will be released now - or hold his registration until he can be bothered to advise the club of his decision

No great loss really.

Perhaps hes gone away with Ferrie Bodde?

Meh, we have got Ifil, Morrison, Aljofree and Greer. Don't need another centre back and lets face it, if we rely on him in midfield we are struggling.

His agent is saying he has been fixed up at another club.  Wanted a longer contract!!

Agree totally Batch. He was never going to make it as a midfielder and wouldn't get near the team at centre back, more wages for more players.

Sounds a bit like Steve Adams to Torquay a few years ago.

Fair enough to Pat if he can get a longer contract, I'll be amazed if anyones given him more than a year though.

He did turn up for training yesterday but was sent home by wilson.

Barnet are interested i think.

Legal. It's slightly longer.

Because he'd not signed his contract?

Title: Re: Pat Kanuka

Because he wasn't insured as he wasn't under contract. That's quite amusing.

I am in the minority but i believe a fit Kanyuke would be a great player. Getting him fit is the problem though

Agree DRS....problem is weve been a stomping ground in recent years for good players..who cant get fit..Corr being a good example.

Title: Re: Pat Kanuka
Post by: Spencer_White on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, 17:46:09
I thought he had great potential.

But he made too many careless mistakes at the back. Which meant Malpas and Wilson were reluctant to pick him as a centre back. As a midfielder he was OK.

Its a shame, because I thought he was a player of decent character, and a hard worker.

As a defender he was another Ifill - in turn brilliant and shit. We've already got one Ifill, we don't need two.

What order of preference do you think Danny Wilson will play the 4 centre backs in this season? Greer has to be number 1  :bye:

Title: Re: Pat Kanuka

Greer and Morrison I would imagine but you never know. Kanyuka is no loss really as he was never fit anyway. The defence is in OK shape at the moment but we desperately need a left back as we dont really have one at the moment.

Casal is a left back isn't he ?  :)

currently i'd go.greer, aljofree, morrison, ifil in that order.dunno if wilson sees it that way

Ideally I'd go for Greer and an on form Ifil.

But we need to develop Morrison so I guess he'll start with Greer.  I can see Aljofree filing in at full back.

Title: Re: Pat Kanuka

I'd go Greer, Morrison, Ifill, anyone else, Aljofree.

Title: Re: Pat Kanuka
Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, 20:53:29
I'd go with the two who can play best together, on last season's performances that would be Morrison and Greer. We'll have to see how Aljofree does with Greer if the scenario arises.

Who's the full backs?

Title: Re: Pat Kanuka

Who's the full backs?

Off the top of my head you can choose from

Casal,Lescinel,Kennedy & Amankwaah.

I'd love to see Greer & morrison in the middle with amankwaah & aljofree on the sides. With a pre-season lescinel might turn out to be a bit of alright, wasn't really given the chance to play in his favoured LB position last season. I think this season, for a change,we might well be ok at the back - it'l up top where we might struggle (obvious i know).

What's going on with Casal?  Is he on his way, or is he to emerge as the new Comminges?

He was not making many reserve team appearances last season if memory serves, it all seems a bit strange.

Ummmm he's a bit shit and not even good enough for our reserve team could be the reason..........just a guess though.

Casal has been injured for most of the second half of last season, whether thats a tactical injury or not I don't know.

My only concern with Aljofree as left back is that will be able to get up and down the field. I reckon he will be too defensive.

Thats probably a good thing, given MacNamee defensive frailties...

Aljofree is not a dead cert to return, his injury will keep him out until after the start of the new season.  Could be on the bench at best on his return.

Kanyuka.

Hi, Motherwell fan here, were are rumoured to be interested in former Swindon defender Pat Kanyuka. Can you guys tell me anything about him? Did you rate this guy or not?

Not really. Never saw anything in him which others did. Steady league one player, not good enough for the spl

I never saw anything either. Slow, couldn't pass, couldn't tackle, no footballing brain, could win the occasional header but thats about it. Add his injuries to the equation and you have a real waste of a squad place.

Title: Re: Pat Kanuka
Post by: Batch on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, 20:24:55
He had half a good game. Shame he didn't stay fit enough to see if it was lack of confidence/match fitness or lack of ability that meant he didn't repeat it.

But other than that, looked like a poor mans Ifil. Only younger.

Useless as a centre back.........looked like he could be the new patrick viera when switched to midfield.......however he is made of glass and can only last 5 minutes before collpsing in a heap.

Overall glad to free up the wages for a player who can last 10 minutes.....good luck with that

I thought he looked really good in midfield. If it hadn't been for his injury record we'd have offered him at least a 1 year contract and he'd most likely still be here. Let's not forget we offered him a short term contract anyway, so Wilson must rate him and think the same - but for the injuries he's worth holding on to.

If he stays free of injury, the team that signs him will be getting a good player on the cheap.
