Didn't really mean it in that way, just found him to be someone i wouldn't enjoy speaking too or become friends with - far to fucking grumpy. He could well have been a truly lovable chap, but he never said or did anything that i found endearing or warming.
Doesn't really matter though does it? It's like the stuff about people saying they didn't like Malpas cos he was dour or Byrne cos he waves his arms round. If they can inspire the team and get performances and results, that's what we pay to watch

Aidy Boothroyd would be amazing but cant see him coming, bit unfair to call him a one season wonder, he done brilliantly then had to sell Ashley Young £9.5m, Marlon King £5/6m and Bouazza £4/5m with hardly any of that money being made available to replace 3 big players for them, was only a year or so ago he was being touted as england manager

Not even slightly, just something i mentioned and then justified. Like you say, who cares what their personality is like, but i do kinda like people that show they care. Smiley

Disagree PAULD....MM got some good results,he was unbeaten in the last 3 LGE matches against good teams....but he had no passion and alot(not all) fans dont want to see there manager standing like a lemon not appearing to care, like King he wasnt liked because of his demeanour.

People would not have given a shit had we not lost the number of games before that, especially at home.

True. It's like the Eriksson/England situation. No one gave a monkey's that he didn't show much passion or indeed that he wasn't English when we were tonking the Nazis 5-1 but it suddenly became an issue when the results started to dip.

Well, King was hardly passionless was he? If King had got us promoted, he'd have been liked well enough, whatever his demeanour; likewise MM if he'd got us into the play-offs we'd have been talking about a quiet cerebral manager who thought his way to the top, a kind of low-rent Tartan Wenger. If you get the results, demeanour doesn't matter, it's only when results go against you and performances dip that things like that come into play

It's a funny old game....I suspect AF had made MM aware of the fact about need to progress in the FAC, which is why he took the negative "lets try and get a 0-0 draw approach.

Had we achieved that he'd still be in a job now...whoever the new man is, there will be those against him from the outset.  If we appointed the recently reincarnated Jesus Christ....there would be those who'd argue he wasn't really the son of God, and only Brian Clough could walk on water.

Boothroyd all the way for me, I think he'd a be a great appointment, failing that Poyet.

What about Curbishley - would he drop to this level for a job, done wonders at Charlton over the years, done ok at West Ham until he had interferance - I suspect though he'd want too much money to even consider this level ?

IMO Boothroyd...not bad..Poyet...unproven as a manager...Curbishley..good manager proven record...Dowie...a few good and a few bad seasons.

We are Swindon....a (mostly) unapealling club, a pretty unapealling job, few funds and little financial reward offered, in a very unapealling division......why the hell would any of those 4 want to come to us?

Lets get our sights set on ACHIEVABLE managerial possibilities and a lot less pie in the sky options like these.

The 4 WILL NOT EVER come to us at the moment.

Ward, Holloway and possibly Cotterill could come to us as they all have links in the West country and probably would be willing to work at this level.

Kings downfall at Swindon was his arrogance towards us fans, which culminated in players doing the same...notably at Cheltenham, after Cheltenham it was only a matter of when he left.

Didn't the Cheltenham incident happen the year before the playoffs? King lasted a good couple of seasons after that including our most successful for a while.
