Not the same I know but My friend works at Swindon Hospital she was telling the other day me alot of the cleaners are from Ghana - apprently the have there own "community" within Swindon - one of the cleaners was wrongly accused of stealing some pens from the hospital - it got back the the community "leader" and she was beaten and disowned by her family for being a thief!! Scary!
A friend of mine is Ghanaian and some of the stories he's told me about Accra are pretty crazy. If a thief is seen stealing some from a market stall, they will be chased by a mob of people. If they're lucky they will get away with a severe beating but it's often much worse, with people being set on fire. Petty theft is considered as bad as murder there. |

Do you know this to be true? Much of the research into serious crimes in this country suggests that tougher sentences have minimal affect on crime rates and re-offending. |

I think the total fucing ineffectiveness of the 3 strikes rule in the States pretty much confirms that. If the prospect of a lifetimes imprisonment for any offence isn't enough to stop someone from stealing a six pack of beer then what is.. |
